Wild, Wild Podcast - WARRIOR QUEEN (1987)

Slave auctions, lavish orgies and gladiatorial combat at the dinner table; no, it's not the Tory Party Conference, it's American adult film director Chuck Vincent's straight-to-video Pompeii-set Warrior Queen, starring Donald Pleasence, Sybil Danning and David Brandon. Pleasence is having fun, Danning looks thoroughly bored and Brandon is doing his best, so will Warrior Queen live up to the expectations set by the fabulous VHS cover art?

This season is dedicated to that great quiet man of British cinema, Donald Pleasence, who spent a great deal of time in the 1980s in Italy (and the Philippines). We would love to hear from you about your favorite Donald Pleasence films from this period, or if you have ever had to flee from a molten lava flow. You can get in touch with us, follow us on social media, buy our merch, and all that stuff, through our LINKTREE.

Video - Perseus Against the Monsters (1963)

This film came up recently in a Bloody Pit podcast discussion of the best 1960's peplum films. Currently this is the only streaming version I can find but it may eventually turn back up on Prime or Tubi. Until then, this subtitled print of the Italian language version is a great way to see this film without the old English dub that turned the film into 'Medusa Against The Sons Of Hercules'. While I love the theme song of the Sons of Hercules series of English dubbed sword and sandal movies, I always prefer the widescreen and unedited for TV versions of these movies. Enjoy!

Not the first or last film based on this historical tale but an interesting, beautiful movie.

The Bloody Pit #169 - Marc McCloud and Emails!

This is a bit of a hybrid episode of the show. We welcome as a guest the owner and ‘head man in charge’ of Orbit DVD in Ashville, NC – Mr. Marc McCloud! Troy and I have known Marc for decades and were surprised when he got in touch about his childhood trip to the Sid & Marty Krofft amusement part. He joins us to relate his recollections of that 1976 adventure and his subsequent fascination with lesser-known parks of the same kind. It makes for a lively stroll down memory lane and adds some detail to our Pufnstuf conversation from episode #167.

The show is bookended by email reactions to our PUFNSTUF show with regular correspondent Kurt’s Burning Man tale being a must-hear trip into unreality. Those Krofft creations are still able to conjure the most interesting flashbacks to a 1970’s childhood! Other emails include a list of favorite sword & sandal movies from one writer and a question about the level of detail we can now find in UHD and Blu-Ray discs. Is it always a good thing? We discuss that at length along with a few extra topics that branch off naturally. As you might realize, the show goes on much longer than I expected!

If you would like to add your voice to the next email show thebloodypit@gmail.com is the place to send your comments. Thank you for listening!
