Video - Dr. Gangrene's Creepy Crawlies Countdown - Day 10

Nashville's own TV horror host recommends one of my favorite giant mollusk monster movies and even name checks me in the video. When you spread your love of these films around, things come back to you in unexpected ways.

Monster Chiller Horror Theatre from SCTV

As a youngster I dreamed of one day getting to see an entire film hosted by Count Floyd.
It could still happen!

The Fantastic Films of Vincent Price #3 - The Invisible Man Returns!

My old buddy Larry Underwood is the reigning Horror Host of Nashville and has been doing a web series covering each of the films of Vincent Price. Here he covers one of the most overlooked of his early horror movies and does a fine job summing up its strengths and weaknesses. Its not my favorite of the Invisible Man sequels but its better than its reputation.

Elvira's House of Mystery?

Until recently I had no idea this was even a thing! The original run of House of Mystery was as a horror anthology and after several years in the mid-1960's with super hero tales it went back to that format.  It had  a good run which ended in 1983 but then in 1986 DC comics published a new series - Elvira's House of Mystery. It sadly only lasted 11 issues plus an oversized special. From what i'm told this series was sort of a follow up used to publish stories that hadn't been used in the original series, with the added selling point of  famed horror movie hostess Elvira taking over from Cain and adding her two cents worth to the proceedings. I've found two issues in bargain bin boxes and with a little luck I'll grab the rest in the same manner! The hunt is on.

A PSA from Elvira

Elvira speaks out.... and shills her show, of course! She sure LOOKS like a witch. Maybe we should build a bridge out her? I'd love to see her reactions to the movie she's talking about in this clip. I was flabbergasted by it.

Good Bye Dr. Shock

I received word yesterday that TV horror host Dr. Shock passed away. More accurately the man who played Chattanooga's Dr. Shock passed away. Tommy Reynolds was the man I watched host horror movies when I was a kid. In rural Tennessee there weren't a lot of options on the dial (I grew up with 3 channels only). But one of the highlights of my young life was getting to stay up late on Saturday nights to see Dr. Shock and his puppet sidekick Dingbat host movies. The theme music was the opening few minutes of the song Black Sabbath by the band of the same name. It was years before I learned that there were words to the song.

If there is any footage of the show I'd love to be able to see it. I wonder if adult eyes would be kind to jokes made 30 years ago by a local celebrity playing straight man to a puppet bat?

Good bye Dr. Shock. I've been missing you for years.
