When you posted one of these on Facebook, I didn't realize it was Joe Phillips doing him. I haven't seen him in ages, but spent one fun Chicago Comicon sitting at the artist table next to him. I'd struggle with my anemic con sketches, and he'd do these beautiful paintings -- I think he was working on Lobo at the time. Every so often, he'd turn to me and ask, "What color is this?" I'd tell him and he'd say, "Good!" and keep on mixing. Because, believe it or not, he's colorblind. Yeah, I know! That's what he told me, anyway, but it never seemed to slow him down much. :-)
My God! If he's colorblind he must have a damned good assistant labeling his workstation! These really are amazing but Carol Lombard's name above needs to be .... fixed.
Well, that's what he told me way back when. And I sat beside him, watching him work, the whole con -- so I had/have no reason to doubt him. There are degrees of color-blindness, though, and even then, he seemed to have it pretty well under control.
But, yes, if I knew how to contact him, I'd ask him to fix Lombard's name. :-)
