ZARDOZ (1974) poster art

BEYOND 1984. BEYOND 2001. BEYOND LOVE. BEYOND DEATH.

The recent Blu-Ray release of this truly bizarre John Boorman film has me smiling the smile of the cult movie fanatic. I love this thing with every fiber of my being. I have the novelization sitting on the bookshelf - I need to finally read that.

It's been said that Connery took this film to destroy his James Bond image. John Boorman was coming off the hit Deliverance. Usually when directors have a success they are entitled to pick their next film. Why do you think Boorman chose Zardoz?

I used to know because I had listened to to Boorman's DVD commentary track on the film. Now I'm too forgetful to say. BUT- I plan to listen to the track again soon since its on the Blu! From what little I can remember this was a dream SF project about the ecological disasters man was headed toward. It was supposed to have a much larger budget so they paired it down to get it made.
