Interesting. I use a variety of sounds for our Star Trek fan films, many from the shows, of course, but for example, I've dropped a sack of potatoes to emulate a body falling to the deck, a slap to a pillow for a fight scene blow, and assorted noises such as air conditioner compressors for alien planets. I remember that the Martian invaders from WAR OF THE WORLDS was from a guy banging on a power-line tower guide wire with a mallet. That same noise reappears in Star Trek, and we've used it ourselves. :)
